- Administrative structure:
The Port is a protected area. Entry of person is restricted to the port area under the provision of the protection of ports (special Measures) Act 1948 (Act No. XVII of 1948 ). Provision of this act was extended to include this port vide Government Notification No SRO 771(K) 65 dated 13.9.65. This empowers the Chief executive of the Port to prohibit entry of any unauthorized person within the limits of the Port.
The Board of the Port Authority consists of a Chairman and three other members. Chairman is the Chief Executive of the Authority. The Board formulates the policy of operation, administration and development of the Port. At the moment there are three divisions: Finance, Operation and Engineering to carry out all the functions of the Authority as broadly showed hereunder:
